Watching a Team Work
What a Team agent's turn shows while it works: the task list, one line per member, messaging a member or the lead, stopping one member or the whole team, and what is kept afterwards.
When a Team agent works as a team, its turn shows the work as it happens, in Chat and on a run's page alike.
While it works
- The task list sits at the top: what the lead planned, and which member has each item. Members claim and update only their own items; the lead owns the plan.
- Notes list the messages passing between the lead and its members, one line each.
- One line per member says what it is doing and for how long. Open a line to see Its task and, as it arrives, Its answer, with the tools it called. On a phone the lines stack.
You can steer the team without waiting for it:
- Message a member from its line. The message reaches it before its next step: Sent. It reads it before its next step. If the member had already finished, you are told it was not sent.
- Write to the lead in the message box while the team works (Write to the lead while the team works…). Choose To to send it to one member instead.
- Stop a member from its line. The others carry on, and the lead is told.
- Stop the team from the message box ends the whole turn.
A member that needs approval asks in its own line, and the rest keep working: see When team members need approval.
Afterwards
The turn is kept with its lines. Each member's line opens to its task, its answer and the tools it used, so you can see who found what.
- Answered alone, without its members means the lead answered from its own tools and instructions and started no team work.
- The cost line shows what the turn cost. On Cloud a team turn is charged for its agents' minutes added together (see Team agents).
On a run's page
A Team in a workflow step shows the same lines on the run's page, with the same Message and Stop, and its members' questions answered there.
Team Agents
An agent that leads other agents: choosing its members, one at a time or as a team, how many work at once, the task budget and spend limit, the lead's own tools, and where a team works.
When Team Members Need Approval
Each member of a Team agent asks for approval on its own while the others keep working; where the questions appear, how they are answered, and how the API and MCP name each one.
